The influence of social media on depression, anxiety and psychological distress in adolescents

Research has shown a connection between using social media and psychological issues. For example, a minor but statistically significant association between social media use and depression symptoms in children and adolescents was found in a comprehensive review of 11 studies.

According to Seabrook et al.'s systematic review, there is a link between poor online interactions and both sadness and anxiety.

Adolescence is when people create their social and personal identities, and social media play a significant role in this process. Unfortunately, teenagers may be unable to avoid the potentially negative impacts of social media use because of their poor ability to self-regulate and their susceptibility to peer pressure. As a result, they run a higher risk of acquiring mental disorders.
