Facebook Knows Instagram Is Toxic for Teen Girls, Company Documents Show

Unsettling evidence from an internal Instagram study published on the impact of the app on young women in 2020. The authors stated in a presentation that The Wall Street Journal was able to access that "thirty-two percent of teen girls reported that when they felt lousy about their bodies, Instagram made them feel worse." In addition, people frequently describe feeling "addicted," aware that what they watch is harmful to their mental health but unable to quit.

Also, a study from Cambridge University examined 84,000 individuals of various ages and discovered that social media use was most significantly linked to poorer mental health throughout particularly vulnerable life stages, most notably for girls between the ages of 11 and 13.
